AABLI Class #8 alumnus Mr. Gorman graduated from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism while editor of a news magazine with a circulation of more than 8,000.  After graduating from Northwestern University’s Pretzker School of law he went on to work for some of California’s most prestigious law firms.  He was recognized twice as a “Super Lawyer” for his work and was the first African American Partner at Allen Matkins Leck Gamble and Mallory.

Mr. Gorman then went on to become Managing Counsel of Yum Brands, the Fortune 500 Company that owns Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, Long John Silvers and A&W Restaurants.  There he was in charge of all domestic real estate acquisitions, disposal and renovations.  He received awards for increasing his department’s culture and interdepartmental communications and exceeded Wall Street development projections for three years in a row.

Although successful in law, Mr. Gorman developed a greater love for higher education and increasing the effectiveness of nonprofit and educational organizations through effective management.  He successfully completed the Entrepreneurial Management program at UCLA’s Anderson School of Business and began to teach at Phillips Graduate University.  Mr. Gorman received a Doctorate in the Humane Arts for his teaching and research in the area of Business Models.

He eventually became chair of Phillips’ doctoral program in organizational management and consulting. While at Phillips, Mr. Gorman helped to design a first of its kind business model between the nonprofit university and a venture capitalist.

Mr. Gorman is now consulting education and entrepreneurial organizations as a partner in Gorman Partners.

Mr. Gorman has served on the boards of a variety of organizations including the Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of California and the Legislative Black Caucus Foundation.  He teaches golf to minority youth in his spare time.
