 Yvette Chappell-Ingram

Yvette Chappell-Ingram is president and CEO of the African American Board Leadership Institute. She has more than 25 years of experience working with nonprofit organizations and has served on numerous boards and committees. Appointed State Commissioner by Governor Brown, Chappell-Ingram is a member of the Dental Board of California. She also serves on the board of Special Needs Network. Past boards include the national and local boards of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the University of California Irvine Advisory Board and the Accounting Careers Awareness Program.  Chappell-Ingram received her Masters of Public Administration from the University of Southern California and her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Northridge.

 Katarina Victoria Eleby

As manager of programs and operations, Katarina Victoria Eleby is a high energy professional who plays an integral role in organizational development, strategic program development and project management. Eleby is committed to leveraging professional experience to identify opportunities for effective collaboration. She is a skilled manager with a track record for designing and executing high-level convenings. Her primary duties include management of AABLI’s in-house educational programming and daily operations, as well as its volunteer relations and outreach programs. Eleby is passionate about cultivating relationships with nonprofit organizations and alumni to move the needle forward on diversity in the nonprofit and public sectors. In May 2013, she was appointed by Governor Edmund Brown, Jr., to a four-year term as the Public Member on the Physical Therapy Board of California, under the Department of Consumer Affairs. The board elected her to serve as Vice President for the remainder of her term. In 2010, she served as an intern in the Office of California State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass. Eleby received her bachelor’s degree in international studies from California State University, Long Beach.

 Victoire “Vickie” Prothro

As manager of communications and marketing, Victoire “Vickie” Prothro’s responsibility is to effectively brand the organization and communicate its mission and program of work, managing AABLI’s website, social media pages, email marketing, media relations, and general marketing initiatives. Prothro provides support to AABLI’s President, facilitating the day to day tasks that advance the organization’s goals and services.  Prior to joining AABLI, she worked as an independent contractor, performing communications, outreach and program functions for a number of local nonprofit institutions. Prothro previously served as Community Affairs Manager/Associate Producer for a Los Angeles area talk show which gave community representatives a forum for discussion of local and national issues. She is scholarship chair for the Nonprofit Communications and Media Network (formerly PIRATESLA.org), dedicated to helping nonprofits work more effectively with the media. Prothro is a cum laude graduate of Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in business management.

 Sierra Smith 

Sierra Smith is manager of outreach and engagement for the African American Board Leadership Institute. Smiths’s responsibilities include planning and executing a comprehensive recruitment campaign to meet the organization’s enrollment goals and help generate a pipeline of applicants. Smith has worked in the nonprofit sector in Chicago and Los Angeles for nearly two decades. With a background in theater and animal welfare, Smith has held positions in community outreach, education, program development and management, and organizational management. She is an adjunct professor at Antioch University Los Angeles, teaching cultural diversity in the MA in Psychology Department. The former external relations manager for the MA in Nonprofit Management Department, she also is an advisor for students engaged in fieldwork. Smith served for two years as chair of the Culver City Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit Committee. A board member with the nonprofit economic development firm, Economic Resources Corporation, she holds an MA in Organizational Management from Antioch University and a BA in Theater Arts from CSUN.
